The Introducing showcase brings you three new and upcoming bands free of charge every month. In August, To Kill A King, Beacon, and Still Parade areon the line up.
Formed in Leeds in 2009 but now based in London, To Kill A King released their debut album Cannibals With Cutlery in February this year. Produced by Jim Abbiss (Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Bombay Bicycle Club), it consists of 13 brilliant, memorable songs, varying in tempo from tender acoustic ballads to epics with orchestral strings, brass and five-part harmonies. At the fore are the intelligent, literary lyrics written by frontman Ralph Pelleymounter and sung in his distinctive, honeyed baritone.
To Kill A King have gigged relentlessly, completing two UK headline tours and selling out London shows at Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, The Garage, XOYO (as part of Q Magazine’s ‘Now: The Sessions’ series), and most recently Cargo.
In Summer 2012 To Kill A King performed at thirteen festivals including Bestival, Wilderness and Field Day and supported Lucy Rose, Bastille and Dispatch. Most recently, the band have been touring Europe as main support to Two Gallants, Bastille, and Spring Offensive.
Beacon are also on the line up. Beacon is a duo from New York consisting of Thomas Mullarney III and Jacob Gossett. Their work explores a combination of deep south bass music and ambient pop melodies, with R&B tinged vocals that accompany warm arpeggiated synthesizers. Their single Drive could easily be taken from the eponymous movie.
The line up is completed by Still Parade. Still Parade is another one of those cryptic acts who don’t disclose any details about who they are and let the music and the eventual hype speak for itself. What we do know is that Christoph Schneider, former drummer in Ghost of Tom Joad, is in this band. According to the band “Still Parade is not about a place or a person. It’s an inner state of mind, it’s about letting go and being alone with your thoughts.” The debut single Actors is the first track from their upcoming debut album that has been nearly three years in the making and is available as a free download. The band describe their sound as dreamfolk but if you ask me it’s pretty much Bon Iver.
