Warpaint are about to explode in a big way and although you really hope they won’t I think once this show is over you’ll agree that the entire planet should have heard of them by now and you’ll wonder at the same time why they haven’t.
This is modern rock music at it’s best. While all the douchebags scramble to invent new boxes to put bands like Warpaint into, my favourite one being desert-rock, riiight, there’s simply no defining these ladies from Los Angeles. I’m going to throw trance-rock into the mix, ha, take that pitchfork. It’s equally haunting and hypnotic and dreamy as it is danceable, pulsating stuff without the guitars ever having to get the shit kicked out of ‘em.
The band: Emily Kokal (vocals & guitar), Jenny Lee Lindberg (vocals & bass), Theresa Wayman (vocals & guitar) and drummer Stella Mozagawa create a gentle storm incorporating many influences ranging from shoegaze and psych-rock to prog-rock to outright shit-hot dance tracks, if any of you are still sitting after you listen to Bees from debut LP The Fool consult your doctor immediately.
The live shows of this fab four have received rave reviews as has The Fool. I pity the fool, as you do, who rants on anymore about this band instead of listening to them. Or you can watch these videos and see what I mean.
First is Elephants from their EP Exquisite Corpse and then click here for the gorgeous Undertow from The Fool.
