It’s probably needless to say anything about The Tunics at this point because I’ve talked about them so much in the past that your ears (or rather your eyes) must be hurting. But I’m going to do it anway…
Back in November the band moved to Berlin for good. They have since been busy playing shows and recording a new album. They recently played at the Fete de la Musique were they performed a bunch of new songs from their yet untitled third album. Tonight you’ll probably be able to hear more new tunes as well as cherished old ones such as this little gem.
When I first heard the band they were supporting Nada Surf back in 2010 and had just released their first record. The Tunics have since grown from a three-piece to a five-piece with only two of the original band members remaining – that being Joe Costello (vox/guitar) and Scott Shepherd (bass). Newer members are James Booth (keyboard), Simon Hargreaves (drums), and most recently Andy Benn (guitar).
The Tunics have also grown musically over the past two years. Much of their newer material is a lot more pensive and sophisticated than their first record would suggest (Ticking Clock, All Shall Be Revealed).
The Tunics are also an amazing live band. You can expect a mix of old and new songs, while some of the oldies will come across in a different form or arrangement.
