A terrific lineup of dark-wave post-apocalyptic rock headlined by The Soft Moon supported by Merchandise and locals DiACurt.
The Soft Moon have played here a few times and have really struck a chord with the local wave and post-punk sets. The music is a psyonic howl. A scream within a scream. If David Lynch was to once again have a go at making a Dune movie, The Soft Moon would be the only choice to soundtrack the Harkonens. Industrial beats colliding with a futurism that’s particular to them, it’s a lonely, cold world that they take you to, A but you understand your place in it and so there’s an element of comfort once you settle into the soundscapes they create. A Place To Bury Strangers meets Seventeen Seconds era Cure meets the best of the old stuff from the 4AD label, they’re not always an easy listen, but you’re not really always an easy person.
Florida industrial act Merchandise sound like the noisy end of the Smiths with a very decent nod to the better end of Killing Joke. I purposefully haven’t looked at a photo of them, because now I can imagine what they look like unhindered: skinny, black hair, sharp features and a what-the-fuck-are-you-talking-about look on them when you come up after the gig to tell them how ace you think they are (they’ve heard that shit before). None of that is probably the truth, but it’s nontheless pretty fucking cool even if it’s remotely on the mark.
Local kids DiACurt have been doing the rounds for the past year or so and were kind of always destined to be playing bigger stages, such is their energy. Loud and ferocious and ice-cool, their demo is long sold out but hopefully they’ve got something at the gig for us to take home and adore.
Thanks to the ace kids of Festsaal Kreuzberg, Blitzgigs is giving away a double pass to the gig. Want free tickets? Just email us at winwinwin@blitzgigs.de with your full name and the answer to the following easy question:
Which is your favourite album from the Soft Moon?
Entries close 30th July around gin o’clock. Yes, we measure time in gin consumption. It’s fun and accurate.
Hosted at Festsaal Kreuzberg, tickets are on sale through the Festsaal website and the link below. Its so far one of our favourite lineups this year and we’re not alone in that sentiment.
