When an indie band sounds so epic as The Jezebels do, it’s unfortunately the case that they’ll constantly be compared to other more classic bands. With their pounding drum lines, almost sounding like they’ve been transplanted directly out of an orchestra, the references to many of the darker wave bands from the eighties are easy to spot. With Hayley Mary’s soaring vocals it’s easy to nail her sound down to Kate Bush, although definitely through the filter of her own vision for the band’s sound. The references are easy to list but what’s brought this little band into the international spotlight is strong songwriting and dedication to their own grandiose aesthetic.
