The Drift take a break from their European tour supporting Explosions In The Sky to perform for us tonight at Schokoladen. I’m sure they’ll enjoy the change at being the headliner for a night and so they should. Their sound is a splendid mix of Do Make Say Think-isms and the above mentioned Explosions to mention but two and yet somehow it seems pointless to name-drop other bands as these guys have quite simply created their own distinct sound.
Below is their first video, Dark Passage, taken from their third album Blue Hour which was released just a month ago. Song of the day here at www.blitzgigs.de.
The Drift are an instrumental band based in San Francisco California comprised of Danny Paul Grody (guitar/keys), Rich Douthit (drums), and Trevor Montgomery (bass). Their music draws upon elements of dub, rock, minimalism, and abstract leanings that combine to create a sound uniquely their own.
Since forming in 2002 the band has released two full lengths and a host of singles to critical acclaim. They have toured extensively in the US, Canada, Europe, and Japan.
…with an uncanny control over mood, melody, and meditation…the trio twist rather ordinary instruments into extraordinary shapes and directions with enviable ease and deceptive simplicity.

Support is from Jefre Cantu-Ledesma, no stranger to you readers of www.blitzgigs.de, he’s been through Berlin several times, most recently last September, here’s what I had to say about that and here’s what happened on that tour below:
