The Avett Brothers like to keep it simple which is why they’re so good at what they’re doing. Granted that the recent years have spawned a lot of folk bands. One thing the other bands don’t have is brother harmony because the Avett Brothers are indeed brothers. Well, two of them are (Scott and Seth plus base player Bob Crawford). Although they have been around for ten years, their mainstream didn’t begin until 2008 when Rick Rubin, who has previously worked with Johnny Cash, Tom Petty and the Dixie Chicks, signed the Avett Brothers to his American Recordings label.
That aside, I heard the Avett Brothers are a fantastic live band. I’m gonna see for myself tonight.
Berlin based The Charcoal Sunset have made themselves quite a bit of a name supporting bands such as Chikinki and Cargo City. Tonight they will be supporting the Avett Brothers.
However, tonight they will play a standalone show at Astra that you shouldn’t miss. The Charcoal Sunset play dreamy folk music that is meaingful without being whiny or awkward.
