The Sounds have been around for more than 10 years now. Despite their many hits and crazy live performance, they never became a stadium act but stuck to the clubs. This year sees the release of their 5th album and their return to the stages of Europe.
My first encounter with the band was a lucky coincidence. Back in 2009 they were supporting Fall Out Boy on their European tour just before they went on a three year hiatus. They were quite the unexpected opener but they had me from the get go when they kicked off their set with party anthem No One Sleeps When I’m Awake. Thanks to their frisky singer Maja Ivarsson and her tantalising performance, The Sounds are an amazing live act. I saw them again at this year’s Berlin Festival and although it was still considerably early in the day, Maja Ivarsson knew how to stir up the crowd and made them chant and clap along. Five years had passed since I’d last seen them and they were still as amazing as ever.
Tonight they’ll play an intimate show at Lido. You never know just how intimate things are gonna get when Maja Ivarsson is around, so consider yourself warned and enjoy the show.
Support comes from Viktor & The Blood, a sort of supergroup consisting of members of Sugarplum Fairy and Mando Diao. „It´s all about guitar, drums and voices, you don´t need more for good rock music“ says vocalist Viktor Norén. Indeed, he is not wrong. Viktor, Jonas Karlsson, and Samuel Giers have been working together since 2011 and their first EP was released in April 2013. This should give you an idea:
