Ruins Of Krger are back. I say this because a month without a Ruins Of Krger show is enough. One of the best Berlin bands of late, they really leave so many others so far behind when it comes to live performance.
The sheer tightness of their performances belies the fact they’ve only made about seven live appearances…this five-piece look like seasoned pros. Made up of four Germans and a Canadian, their drummer is a beast of a player, forming the backbone along with their Canadian bass player while two guitarists provide a unique blend of styles ranging and switching between psych, lo-fi and post-punk. With alternating female/male vocals on top of this heady mix they have drawn comparisons to early Siousxie and the Banshees, while Wire, Pere Ubu, Ween and a host of other names immediately spring to mind. Those crowds lucky enough to have seen them so far have been confronted with one of the most original bands performing in Berlin at the moment. Now’s your chance to catch them.
The night is called FOOD and they’ll be one of three acts playing in the main space along with the rest of the evenings attractions:
FOOD lends itself to the International emerging Cultural and Political scene of Berlin – starting 20 years after the first waves of subcultures started in the Streets surrounding Rosenthaler Platz, it now seeks to Redirect, Reverse and Recreate…
Other Notes on Guerrilla Warfare, Food’s first exhibition curated by Penny Rafferty alongside Magnus Kruger, Martina Schne-Radunski and Alice Morey. FEED Zines which is a cheap and cheerful small library attached to FOOD, a gallery space dedicated to Mural Art, and FOOD’s own avant-garde eatery ‘The Raw and The Rotten”. Which all sounds equally fascinating and stomach churning at the same time. I think I’ll bring some fizzy-good-make-feel-nice for my stomach just in case.
Here’s thw Ruins, it’s a fun video, especially the bit with the bikes, enjoy, it’s called Blowcut:
