Cranky Booking continues with it’s Kugelbahn series of shows this month with Ruins Of Krger and Mother Of The Unicorn who make their Berlin debut.
That mysterious beast, Ruins Of Krger, play the latest in their “we only play on 23rd of any month” series of shows, coincidence or not this month the magic is to be found in Wedding.
Ruins Of Krger formed a little over a year ago and first debuted their very accomplished live set in May at the Knochenbox followed by their Cranky Night debut at Antje Oklesund in June. The sheer tightness of their performances belies their few live appearances…this five-piece look like seasoned pros. Made up of four Germans and a Canadian, their drummer is a beast of a player, forming the backbone along with their Canadian bass player while two guitarists provide a unique blend of styles ranging and switching between psych, lo-fi and post-punk. With alternating female/male vocals on top of this heady mix they have drawn comparisons to early Siousxie and the Banshees, while Wire, Pere Ubu, Ween and a host of other names immediately spring to mind. Those crowds lucky enough to have seen them so far have been confronted with one of the most original bands performing in Berlin at the moment. Now’s your chance catch them.
They’ve been busy this past two months recording even more stuff and going on holidays which seems like a very sensible use of time to me, especially when you come up with a video like this, it’s called Blowcut:
Opening up is Mother Of The Unicorn making their Berlin debut. Joe Kelly, the creative force behind this band, and his brother Aaron, recently re-located to Berlin from Brighton and have recorded two of their four EPs since arriving. Tonight they’ll play as a duo and we’re really looking forward to seeing them, take a listen and you’ll hear why, there’s one from each EP:
