Roxanne de Bastion is a young singer-songwriter born and raised in Berlin who moved to London a couple of years ago to kick off her musical career. Last year she came back to Berlin to record her debut album The Real Thing with Gordon Raphael (Regina Spector, The Strokes) which was just released on her own label Nomad Songs. To promote the new album Roxanne plays a couple of intimate shows around the UK and Germany.
Her compositions and live shows are incredibly varied in dynamism an style, ranging from intimate, lilting anti-folk to raw 60′s blues rock. What ties them together are her charm, her instantly recognisable voice an the sincere, witty and downright ballsy lyrics.
According to Amazon, the album comes with explicit lyrics. I wonder if they’re referring to the German line on Empty Space that says “Ey, Alter, komm mal klar” which could be translated as something like “Dude, what gives”.
