Phosphorescent can do no wrong and as long as he plays Wolves I’ll be happy…damn it he can play it all night long.
2005′s Aw Come Aw Wry and 2007′s Pride announced a major talent and followed by To Willie and Here’s to Taking It Easy last year have made Matthew Houck one of the most compelling figures to emerge from the resurgence of folk/country influenced bands.
Where Pride, although in possession of the most heartbreakingly beautiful songs in recent memory in Wolves, had the tendency to dissipate into droney territory unexpectedly, Here’s to Taking It Easy is a swaggering, country rock jam of an album never veering from its traditional guitar, bass, drums and some piano all with a healthy country twang. If he keeps up this kind of output we can look forward to ever-increasingly interesting records.
