Flabouyantly sexual singer Peaches‘ production of Jesus Christ Superstar was attempted back in February, but was shut down by THE MAN. Not really the man, more like the German rights holders to the original Andrew Lloyd Webber production, who decided that anything with Peaches being cast as the man from Gallilee was just too much for them, either that or they just wanted more money, nobody’s really sure.
That’s a fair assumption to make. I had to bail a friend out of a Peaches concert once, as in, help him get out of there as quickly as possible since he couldn’t take another second of it and really thought something bad was going to happen any minute ago. The poor little fella had taken way to much acid and as the show went on, Peaches (and back up performers) started dancing with large felxible pink dildos spilling out from the front of their short shorts, spinning pink dildos going round and round like turnstiles in a busy train station, it all became just a little bit too much for him and his overstimulated head. It was slightly too much for a lot of people there, with or without high quality hallucinogens, but this is why you go to a Peaches gig, to get a little bit pushed around and dig some music done in a way you might not be familiar or entirely comfortable with.
So you see why people might get a little touchy about Jesus Christ Superstar being done anew starring Peaches, people were touchy about the whole production, just the vanilla way it was, upon launch in the 70′s, when protests and small riots resulted, as is normally the case when someone does something a little new or even newer.
…gosh, that’s really fruity. anyway…
The plan is that it’s back, for three nights, May 31st, June 1st & 2nd. Accompanied by Chilly Gonzales on piano, Peaches will be performing a stripped down version of the original material, with flourishes of her own creativity, just to make it a bit more fun and to keep the Peaches fans satisfied. You know that they’re sometimes a strange lot. I’m trying to find details about what’s changed about the permissions this time, but cant find anything.
