Man Overboard is a five piece pop punk band from New Jersey named after a Blink 182 song. Taking influence from such pop punk acts as Blink-182, Saves the Day and Taking Back Sunday, Man Overboard play a brand of upbeat and poppy pop punk with a touch of 90s emo acts such as Texas Is The Reason. The Band is well known for its motto, “Defend Pop Punk” and their own label Lost Tape Collective. Pop punk is a funny little genre that never gained as much popularity in Germany as it did in the States. Growing up with Green Day, Bad Religion and The Offspring I was too young to go to their shows so pop punk helps me make up for it to a certain degree.
I saw Man Overboard guys play with with fellow pop punks Transit at the now defunct Lovelite four years ago. As usual for this kind of show, it wasn’t particularly busy but the people who were there made up for it. Pop punk shows simply have the best crowds. It’s been quite a while that the band was in Germany for a headline tour. The spent the last 4 yours on tour with bigger acts such as New Found Glory, Taking Back Sunday, Mayday Parade or Bayside. Man Overboard are still touring their third full length Heart Attack, which was released in May 2013.
With their previous tour postponed for various reasons, Man Overboard are back to tour the UK and Europe in April and May – presented by Punktastic.
The New Jersey based pop-punks will be joined by Moose Blood and ROAM on all dates, and German punk-rockers Smile And Burn in the UK.
“This tour has had a host of set backs,” says Justin Collier of Man Overboard. “Nik tore his ACL and we had to reschedule from November to April/May, Hostage Calm broke up, etc… With the new lineup including Moose Blood, Roam and Smile And Burn (UK only) we are breathing in some new life into this tour and we couldn’t be more excited!”
“We’ll be making stops in some new places that we haven’t played before, such as Poland and Northern Ireland. We’re returning to Germany, where we haven’t played since 2012. We’ll be playing Islington Academy in London, a venue we’ve played twice and dreamed of headlining. We’ll also be making an appearance at Fury Festival in Liverpool with Motion City Soundtrack and Trash Talk, among others, along with the Pinky Swear Records Fest in Manchester.”
“We’re incredibly excited and look forward to seeing everyone at the shows!”
But the best is yet to come…
