Blitzgigs.de presents a night of garage rock mayhem with the return of King Khan & BBQ Show who bring their unique, raucous and much-loved two-piece show to the Festsaal Kreuzberg. Supported by Bikes and Delta Love this will surely be remembered as one of the best shows in Berlin this year or anywhere remotely close to Berlin for that matter.
King Khan & BBQ Show split up in Sydney in 2010 after entering rock ‘n roll history as one of the most formidable garage-rock duos ever to have taken the stage. Playing a sold out show in Toronto last July, King Khan and Mark Sultan announced their return to the stage, their performances still capable of whipping even the most bored crowd of sedated hipsters into a thrashing frenzy. It’s garage-rock as it should be. This quote sums it all up perfectly:
This dynamic duo has relentlessly pursued an uncompromising vision of the subversive power of music that pays no heed to commercial imperatives. Standing outside the industry, two fingers raised in salute, they have nevertheless managed to forge an international career completely on their own, idiosyncratic terms.
Here’s King Khan’s Fish Fight and Invisible Girl, one of the best videos ever:
Delta Love (Carl guitar/foot-organ/vocals, Til drums/vocals) have been winning over audiences in Berlin with their unique combination of reverb-laden guitar, drums, vocals and foot-organ, a dizzyingly brilliant mix of 60s garage-psych influences filtered through their own modern day approach.
Having sprung themselves upon unsuspecting crowds all over Berlin through support slots with Sic Alps and Bob Log III, appearances at the Future Days nights, and several shows at Stadtbad Wedding and Antje Oklesund to mention but a few venues, Berlin’s “finest lo-fi garage duo” as described by Blitzgigs.de, tonight make their Festsaal debut as support to King Khan & BBQ Show, a sure sign that a band is coming of age.
Here’s their Backdoor video and I Swear below that, both taken from their debut EP, Post Tempus:
