While we’d all love to see this puppy pick to up his master’s guitar and give us a stirring rendition of Jailhouse Rock, realistically this pooch will probably be curled up at home dreaming of big juicy bones and chasing cats smaller than itself. As fate would have it, this cute four-legged specimen has Jefre-Cantu Ledesma as it’s official can-opener and walker; what a stroke of luck because when he’s not walking or opening cans for pooch he’s off making beautiful, dreamy, shoegaze heavy soundscapes so that pooch can dream softly through the night, dreams where he always gets the bone, catches the cat and where everyone’s ecstatic he picked up that guitar and covered Jailhouse Rock. Woof!
Back in the land of reality, however, Ledesma’s recent LP Love Is A Stream on Type Records, is blindingly shoegazey, not something for a hangover, believe me I’ve tried, yet it wears it’s influences on its sleeve, a giant slab of My Bloody Valentine guitar-haze and a sea of Fennesz-like droney tunefulness.
His Shining Skull Breath album (2007) has been re-released in a limited edition of 500 LPs and contains the lovely ditty The Honeybees In My Heart, showing us that it’s not all fuzz and haze and there is time for puppy to come and lick your face.
With Super-8 projections from Paul Clipson this should be a pretty spacey evening.
