So their second album Grinderman 2 is a bit of a masterpiece. Reminds me of the glory days of the Bad Seeds before they got too rich and got too many expensive suits. Then again, they do look good in those suits so who am I to judge.
Luckily for us they’ve chosen this venue which despite it’s size still has enough atmosphere to make the bands enjoyable. It’s not the Tempodrom where the Bad Seeds played two years ago and basically had as much atmosphere as an empty bucket, not even Nick Cave could wake that crowd up. So armed with their sophomore effort this seems to be one of those times that Cave needs to, and will, impress with Messrs Sclavunos, Casey and Ellis in tow.
This second album is just the right mixture between classic slower, bass driven Cave songs, manic screechers designed to scare the neighbours kids and even a classy touch of psych-rock driven excellence at the end in the shape of “Bellringer”. A continuation in recent form for Cave who, at his age, luckily doesn’t know better or seem to know how to make a bad record for that matter. Lucky us.
