Canada’s Great Lake Swimmers lead by Tony Dekker have been credited as bringing indie-folk back to it’s roots, taking the pop out of the equation and hopefully bringing listeners back to music that they’ll actually still be listening to ten years from now.
Whether that’s actually evident to the unwashed masses or not is a question worth asking, or not, if you’d prefer that Great Lake Swimmers’ clean folk sound wasn’t polluted by the fickle whims of the pitchfork crowd. Which is a fair position to take even if you aren’t being terribly inclusive. You’re actually a bit of a snob, but that’s a part of you we definitely admire. Honestly. You really do have wonderful taste in music and you’re someone we listen to on such matters.
The new album from Dekker & friends made it out April 3rd, New Wild Everywhere is the title. The show they’re playing here in Berlin at .HBC is obviously the perfect chance to check out the new stuff if you haven’t already. And it’s probably quite good and definitely worth checking out, since pitchfork only gave it 5.7 and whatever they don’t like is usually pretty good. And vice versa.
