giardini Giardini di Miro at Frannz Club

Giardini di Miro return to us once again although I can’t remember the last time I saw this lovely Italian band, it’s been too long that’s for sure.

Having built up a back catalogue of four studio albums, three e.ps, countless singles and a soundtrack since 1998 they returned with Il Fuoco in 2009. It’s a reworking into a full album of a soundtrack to a famous 1915 silent Italian film which they were commissioned to record. So, you’re beginning to get the picture, here is a band that have survived this long by taking risks and doing what they feel like doing. That and the fact that their brand of post-rock/indie music reminds one instantly of Piano Magic, Mogwai and some sparkly, jangly indie guitar bands whose names elude me…damn it…and loads of Cure to be heard in the basslines too, what more do you need on a cold January night.

Anyway, I just dug out The Soft Touch E.P from 2002 and there it is, track one, The Soft Touch of Berlin Guitarfalling…the soundtrack of your evening stroll through your neighbourhood park on a snowy January evening if ever I heard it, awash with violins and gentle guitar playing edging to the shoegazey side of indie, it’s just one of the many faces of Giardini di Miro.

The cosy, smart surroundings of Frannz Club is just the place to catch your soon to be favourite Itlaian band ever, or your only one for that matter. I’m off for a walk…
