Efterklang are a happy band. Last August I thought for a while they were just coked out of their brains on stage at the OFF Festival but when the smiles didn’t wear off after ten or twenty minutes or even almost an hour I realised there’s just something really nice going on in this band. Either that or they’re just not used to the sun.
As 4AD has so generously written of them:
Efterklang make music for the inspired. But don’t feel left out, for Efterklang inspire all. Otherworldly pop songs, both magnificently ambitious and engagingly intimate. Breathtaking panoramas of sound with few clear antecedents. This is music with no boundaries.
Exactly what I was thinking 4AD, well done. Try to genre-fy them, try to put them in a box and you’ll fail miserably but don’t worry, Efterklang won’t laugh at you, they’ll probably make you some tea.
And so it has come to pass that a film has been made about how incredibly nice and inspiring and wonderful they are. It’s called An Island and will be shown prior to the gig in the comfy Volksbhne.
