It’s nice to see Dum Dum Girls getting a venue such as Festsaal in order to show off what they can really do. Live these ladies are a tight unit packing a mean punch and exuding a detached cool that’s simply irrestistible. Plus, if your names are Dee Dee, Jules, Bambi and Sandy, could your band be named any better?
Their recent EP He Gets Me High is yet another slice of fuzzy indie guitar, girl group inspired brilliance. Everything you found exhilarating about their full length debut I Will Be is still there and after a hectic touring schedule over the past year this band of black-clad, red lipstick wearing Californians have delivered good on the promise of being more than just another buzz band.
This EP follows the course of a love affair, from the glorious beginnings of Wrong Feels Right to the heartbreaking end in Take Care Of My Baby with which Dee Dee could probably stop traffic on an autobahn. Gorgeous. And then they finish it with a cover of The Smiths classic There’s A Light Never Goes Out that, well, kicks the originals’ ass in several different ways, several times over. Awesome. We love Dum Dum Guuuuurls.
