Do Make Say Think have been back in Europe for the recent Constellation Records 15th Anniversary shows in Bern, Paris and Leipzig and have decided to drop in on us lucky people of Berlin and several other cities and about time too I’d say.
Since their last appearance in 2009 at the old Magnet Club you would have been forgiven for thinking that that was that, no more Do Make Say Think. Why? Well, naming the four songs on your last album Do, Make, Say and Think does have a certain finality to it you might agree. So, you can imagine how I jumped, well, not so much jumped as almost choked on my morning coffee as I read the news that they were coming to town. Sorry Santa Claus but you just don’t get me as excited as this band can.
I first saw Do Make Say Think when they arrived for the very first European tour in Ireland in 2000, they literally stepped off the plane and into the venue, an 80 capacity cinema, and proceeded to play a show which I still remember to this day. Goodbye Enemy Airship The Landlord Is Dead had just been released and seeing as they’ve been playing this album live at the Constellation Anniversary shows you would think they’re a bit tired of it and that we’ll get the greatest hits show tonight, well, I can dream can’t I? Either way, whatever they play it’ll be a great show by one of the true greats of the past decade and a bit, the one post-rock band that actually made you dislike all the other post-rock bands because they bored you stupid in comparison and actually managed to avoid being a post-rock band if you really want to get picky about it…which I don’t, I’d rather listen to one of their records…see you at the show.
Here’s one of the best videos ever, bad-boy, poker-playing teddy bears, there’s one inside us all you could say, below that a homemade video to Chinatown from &Yet &Yet, Executioner’s Blues and The Universe follow that, both classics:
