Cranky Booking is back again in Monarch this week with a double-header of psych-pop-indie-rough-diamonds in the shape of Delta Love and debutants Classic Muscle.
Delta Love have been around a while now and as they finish off recording their debut album they’ve been out and about a couple of times recently to remind us why they’re one of the best bands around. A psych-pop duo that defies all those boring preconceptions that duos are only allowed to sound like, well, other boring garage-rock duos, these two born and bred Berliners have pop tunes up their sleeves than The Beatles and combine it to dizzying effect with a psych mentality to produce something truly original.
Classic Muscle formed only in August of this year in strange circumstances and play make their debut live appearance tonight amid slowly rippling rumours that they are a band to watch in the near future. Finding themselves stuck in a summer thunderstorm, luckily close to one of their rehearsal rooms, they formed out of a simple need to shelter; through a jam-session, shirts off, dripping wet, späti beers all round, the songs were written in a few hours and recorded in one afternoon, live, raw, irresistible. Take a pick of what influences you want to tag them with but a vocal bordering on a classic, distant Jesus and Mary Chain vocal, messy yet ultimately melodic guitars backed with tight drums and bass, these boys tick all the right boxes, it’s simply classic in every sense. Classic Muscle are one to watch.
