Dance Yourself To Death (DYTD) from Toronto got lucky when their first independent EP fell into the hands of Sir Elton John who cast the band to play in a scene in the movie It’s A Boy Girl Thing which he was producing.
Their first album Ready For Love was released in 2009 and it’s one of my favourite albums to date. I first met the band in the spring of 2010 when they played a couple of shows in Europe. After playing at L-Beach Festival (a annual lesbian festival by the Baltic Sea) the band came to Berlin to play a show at NBI club. Little did they know then that they would be stuck in Berlin for another week due to the infamous volcanic eruption on Iceland.
DYTD’s addictive pop rock won me over in a heartbeat and the band proved to be an amazing live act, very engaging with the audience and very professional when the tech failed them. I’ve been awaiting the band’s return to Berlin eagerly and I’m glad it worked out after their initial venue cancelled.
They have a new album in the making (Fang) off of which the first single Cry Out Loud is available for free download.
DYTD are on tour with special guest Light Fires, the side project of fellow Canadian Arts&Crafts recording artist Gentleman Reg.
