The wonderful news that Antje Öklesund won’t be closing down or moving on or anything else until at least early 2015, has nicely coincided with some excellent evenings there already this October and what better way to usher autumn into your life than with a nip of whiskey at the Cranky Booking doorway of friendliness and some great live acts to go with it at the third edition of Cranky Fest.

The autumn edition of Cranky Fest sees the usual eclectic mix of Berlin-based bands brought together in this most crumblingly elegant of live venues. Bringing you two of Berlin’s best of 2013 in Ruins of Krüger and The History of Colour TV, both played sold out shows at the beginning of this year in this very venue and it seems fitting to see them together on this line-up. Creatures from Melbourne open up proceedings with some quality songwriting and sparkling guitars followed by Slow Steve (of Fenster) with his oh-so-danceable synth-pop.

Ruins Of Krüger are no strangers to the Cranky Night, having wowed an unsuspecting packed house last February. They come storming back with loads of new songs and even a new biography which is about as accuarate a description of what a Ruins show is like:

“Ruins of Krüger are a anomourphous family band with a autistic drummer, a statue like female singer, a canadic ringmodulated bass player and two weird demons that fight each other with their swords/guitars.while you find yourself in a robotic trance-like post-punk-goth-world, you get thrown into an psychedelic abyss that you cannot leave. all they want is to wake you up. Expect nothing, get everything.”

The History of Colour TV released their debut album, Emerald Cures Chic Ills, last January to a full house at Antje. Garnering nothing but positive reviews the whole year long, it’s fair to say that record will be included in future lost classics lists. This trio is at work on the follow up to this album which will appear next year again on Saint Marie Records from the US. Here’s a snippet of some that flattering press:

“The fine, beautiful textures in which this album is draped are remarkable and rather wonderful, gliding from light to dark and back again, across the post-rock scape of crushing, pounding guitars. To put them all together as the History of Colour TV have done here is no mean feat.”

DJ Kenny Albert Lump has been the finest DJ to grace a Cranky Night having filled the Monarch dancefloor into the wee hours in August, no mean feat as you all know.
