CrankyBooking has been packing them into Antje Öklesund at its monthly Cranky Nights over the past eighteen months so they’ve decided to go all out and have a mini-festival with five bands on the line-up and why not.
There’s something for everyone in this excellent line-up, from the off kilter, spacey ambient-folk in the shape of Yule FM to the Beach Housey synth-pop of Magic Hands, to Pitchfork’s favourite doom-gazers Nadja to the rollicking five-piece classic indie guitar attack of Skiing to one of the most impressive acts to appear at these nights, Delta Love.
Delta Love have become one of the most exciting live bands of recent times in Berlin falling neither into a garage nor a psych-rock style as they manage to combine both worlds with a pop sensibility that sets them head and shoulders above most.
Here’s one of their debut EP called I Swear and a live one of theirs Can I See You Again at Festsaal last March:
Skiing has grown from a three to a five piece ever since they disappeared last year. Just when they seemed poised to take the indie world by storm they took a break but now they’re back and taking the indie world by the scruff of its vintage shirts neck and it’s shaking it back into life. Their second album Holly was showcased recently at the reunion gig and you understand why they added two extra guitars to the line up, it’s simply great. The album will be available at the show they promise me but til then here’s some oldies:
