Nashville’s latest rising country star Caitlin Rose is no stranger to Berlin and returns for her own headining show in Comet Club this month.
Rose appeared as support before Kort ( Lambchops’ Kurt Wagner with Cortney Tidwell) at the Passionskirche just last November and although seeming like she didn’t want to be there, hiding as she did behind her impressively long, shiny and floppy fringe, that impression didn’t last as she blazed through a set of her gorgeous, original country songs full of longing, heartache and whiskey.
Lauded as having a voice
“as sweet as Saturday night whisky and as clear as a Sunday church bell”
by The Guardian, it’s the comparisons to country music legends Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline that have raised most eyebrows. Rightly so.
Her debut EP Dead Flowers raised the eyebrows and the following debut album Own Side Now has driven home the point. Ranging from full band hoe downs to solo heartbreakers, it’s a classy slice of country music at its best.
Part of a new breed of Nashville musician that has to leave to gain recogition abroad before returning home with some success that they can wave in the face of the conservative country music scene in Nashville, Caitlin Rose is country music thru and thru. Why? Well, take a look at the video below. These people know the value of a good time with friends, good music and a few bottles of whiskey to light the way. Enjoy…best with a decent bourbon.
Here’s Own Side, a great clip and a worm of a song to boot…
