Yo La Tengo in Berlin for the third time since June 2009? Now that deserves the lead photo on this here preview. Yes siree, oh and they’re bringing an extra guitarist with them so it’ll be even better and louder than ever before with special focus on their releases with City Slang. Hmm, they can play whatever they want it’ll still be the best christmas present I’ll be getting this year.
As if Lambchop needed any introduction as the greatest alt-country-soul-rock-folk combo of all time, they will be playing their 2002 classic Is a woman from start to finish. Personally I’d rather hear them play Nixon but hey, i’m easily pleased. Plus, lead man Kurt Wagner plays Passionskirche on Novermber 7th as Kort so by then I’ll be all countried out on Lambchop back-catalogue, lying around in a bed of autumn leaves in Treptower Park (insert sigh here).
Alexi Murdoch provides the intro to the evening with his acoustic guitar but maybe with more than that who knows, either way his songwriting will warm the heart, if you’re not familiar with his name think Nick Drake hanging out with Jim O’Rourke.
Thank you City Slang for bringing together a mouth-watering triple-whammy of indie-rock greatness…all after the previous two nights of greatness. Well, you wouldn’t know about the first night, Nov. 19th because you were at the Blitzgigs night at Knochenbox, weren’t you, yes, that’s right, you were.
