Kicking off in Berlin, a series of unique album launch gigs will take place across Europe, designed to promote the band’s forthcoming eighth LP, Monuments To An Elegy. The band, that is now Billy Corgan and Jeff Schroeder or in other words: Billy Corgan and his second guitarist.
The Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan and Jeff Schroeder will be joined by Brad Wilk of Rage Against The Machine on drums and Mark Stoermer of The Killers on bass.
“Mark I’ve known for years through a mutual friend and I knew he was a fan. He came to a lot of Pumpkins shows over the past few years. He was the first person I thought of when I was putting together a unique line-up for the record release shows.
“Brad is an incredible drummer – I didn’t really know him, but he’s a friend of a friend too. We’ve already started rehearsing and it sounds incredible. Such great musicians with great histories. We feel really humbled that they’re helping us to launch this record.”
Corgan also promised a set list that featured songs from the new LP, but also “a few classics, a few deep cuts… just a good, punch you in the face kind of set, grunge style.”
Tickets go onsale Wednesday 19 November at 9am.
Monuments To An Elegy is released on 8 December. Smashing Pumpkins will also be headlining several dates as part of the South American Lollapalooza Festival: 14/15 in Santiago, Chile, 21/22 March in Buenos Aires, Argentina and 28/29 March in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
