Crooked Hands are an up and coming folk pop band from Newcastle now on their first ever European tour. Initially a solo project by frontman Chris Brown, Crooked Hands fully formed and took life as a 5-piece during the early months of 2012.
The band have self-released two singles this year, Under and The Stream.
Centred around Brown’s fragile yet captivating vocal Under swirls and broods under a mixture of reverberated guitars and piano, that builds into a triumphantly dark ode to love and heartbreak, that breaks and ends once again with the fragility of Brown’s vocal.
The Stream starts with just guitar picking and Chris’s beautiful falsetto. The other instruments kick in gradually and build up to a powerful crescendo. I’m really not into folk music but I really enjoy this blend of country picking and Radiohead-esque pomposity.
