Umlala is an Israeli band, established in Jerusalem (2009) by Josef Laimon (Vocals), Orel Tamuz (Guitar), Yuval Goren (Bass), Nir Yatzkan (Keyboards), and Omri Blau (Drums). The band currently resides in Berlin.
Their biggest breakthrough came after releasing their 2nd single – My PDF Files.
Umlala is an experimental music project, that has accomplished a strong presence in their local scene. Their charismatic performance and abstract lyrics immediately attracted the media’s attention as well as a devoted crowd. The lyrics are a collection of nonsense and self-criticism, backed by strange humor and natural sadness. Umlala express an interesting attitude by taking themselves not too seriously. The band name derives from the Hebrew word for unhappy or miserable.
Their debut album Stand Go Show Shout was released on May 18th. The band describe their sound as speed rock. To me they seem to be basically influenced by math-rock and electro pop. If you enjoy bands such as Foals or Bloc Party you will certainly enjoy this.
The band will play at White Trash tonight along with Thee Nathaniel Fregoso & The Bounitful Hearts
(The Blood Arm‘s front man in his new band) as part of the Snowhite Night.
