Pavement made it. They made great records, earned the respect of fans and critics alike, inspired and influenced a horde of other bands and thrilled crowds when they toured. Then they broke up in 1999 after a show in London’s Brixton Academy a month before the end of the century because there was nothing left for them to prove. They all continued to make music in other bands, Bob Nastanovich even became a horse-breeder-owner-manager of all things when he wasn’t playing in bands.
Whatever the truth behind their break-up, it doesn’t really matter now. They got tired of it, band infighting, a long tour in ‘99, journalists looking to bring you down with rubbish stories, none of that matters. Pavement said it themselves when it happened that they were too exhausted to be emotional about it. So they just got on with their lives.
Now it’s reunion time!!! The second to none back catalogue has been reissued on vinyl at cheapo prices and the feeling is if they’re going to do this then they might aswell make as much cash while doing so. Pixies did it, My Bloody Valentine did it so why can’t Pavement. It’ll be a great show, you’ll have fun and with any luck some kids beside you will have their minds blown, go home, start a band cos Pavement inspired them to and make some decent records on top of it. Or maybe you will. Enjoy.
