Lambchop frontman Wagner needs no introduction to Berlin’s country music fans. Recently he teamed up with Cortney Tidwell to record Invariable Heartache , a cracker of a record and something of a loveletter from these two Nashville homebirds to Nashville country music itself.
Released under the name Kort it’s a stunning collection of cover versions of songs which were released on Chart Records (1962-1974), the label run by Tidwell’s grandfather, the label her father was an A&R man for and whose mother, Connie Eaton, recorded for…after she was discovered by, yes, her father . So as you can see this is something of a family affair, Cortney even sings a song her mother recorded once upon a time.
The album is full of lovin’ an’ losin’ and is a tribute to the great country music that Nashville has produced, the music that has been an inspiration to Tidwell and Wagner and the Lambchop family. Pedal steel, brushed drums and heartache in widescreen, it makes me want to build a porch out the backyard(if I had a backyard) and leave this record on the recordplayer for a few months.

Apparently, this record has no US distributor at this time, a crime in any language. Luckily we’re spared this deprivation by City Slang in Europe at least where you can buy all the heartache you can handle.
