Giant Sand bring the dusty memories of half a lifetime to Berlin for a celebration.
With a back catalogue of never-ending depth and originality about to be extended to 25 studio albums by the release of new album Blurry Blue Mountain on Fire Records aswell as by the re-release of their debut album Valley of Rain, this evening promises to be one to remember.
Howe Gelb is the driving force behind a band that has been through it all, including the bizarre experience of being dropped from a major record label for “not being indie enough” and then a couple of years later hearing one of his songs being used on a Coke ad. I love his stories at his live shows and that’s still my favourite. Despite all that crap Howe has continued to amke some of the most innovative and genre-defying rock music out there today. Dubbed “the godfather of alt-country” by many around the turn of the century since then he has made records which more on soul and gospel aswell that old country goodness aswell as all the others that I haven’t even heard yet. Right, better get to it then.
Tickets are very modestly priced for a show which knowing Howe Gelb, will be easily almost three hours long. See ya there.
