Jason Collett and John Vanderslice, who’ll be on first, who cares, it promises to be a special night at Privatclub.
Collett first came to European’s attention as part of the Broken Social Scene combo of brilliance and has released seven solo albums in total, Idols of Exile in 2005 the one which really earned him the attention he deserved, packed with breezy country-tinged tunes that make an excellent roadtrip soundtrack by the way. Enlisting his BSS family and among them Leslie Feist to help record that album gave it an extra touch of class and the ensuing tours had them all crossing paths and making guest appearances on stage together the world over, i.e. 2006 Immergutrocken could have been re-named the Broken Social Scene + Friends Roadshow…I think they all had solo albums out at the time.
I ramble, I ramble because I love their music and instead of ramblin’ again here’s a video of the hunky Mr.Collett doing what he does best with the one and only Feist:
John Vanderslice is a singer-songwriter with a lot to say or at least he did when I first got to know him. Pixel Revolt in 2005, was an angry and powerful album full of politically motivated lyrics and anti-war sentiment aimed at the douchebags in the White House and followed up 2004′s Cellar Door, a great yet bleak album or should that be the other way around? His recent records have seen his always tuneful acoustic/indie-pop flourish, particularly Romanian Names released 2009 and this year’s White Wilderness saw him team up with a mini orchestra and get all chamber-pop on us, great stuff.
Here’s the song White Plains from Cellar Door anyway and a video of Time To Go from 2007′s Emerald City. If you’ve never seen him play before it’s always a friendly and warm experience, to be made doubly so with Mr.Collett around.
