Mogwai are no strangers to our fair city but yes, it’s about time they got their arses back over here for a show. What’s bin keepin ye? I suppose opening a bar in Neuklln takes up a lot of time then.
New album Hardcore will never die, but you will (Rock Action) is possibly the most horrible album title of the year so far but in turn also one of the best albums of the year so far. It seems to me that Mogwai have dropped the post and now just rock. The tear-jerking opener White Noise shouldn’t put you off with it’s beautiful guitar signature, it’s how you open a good album, Mogwai ain’t dumb. Thereafter it’s relentless stuff with only a couple of other slower tracks in the whole ten. It has been met with tame reviews across the board but those people are just bored so we’ll move on and gently recommend them to listen to the record on vinyl and try to actually enjoy listening to music instead of picking holes in bands.
It’s a pleasant surprise to long time fans who had possibly thought their best was past which makes this show in Huxley’s all that more attractive. It’s always loud and brash a Mogwai show, so expect to see lots of those people pushing past you to the front only to stuff earplugs in their precious ears once they get there. Hopefully Mogwai spot them and get all Glasgow on ‘em…ouch.
