Times New Viking hail from Columbus, Ohio and consist of drummer / vocalist Adam Elliot, keyboardist / vocalist Beth Murphy and guitar virtuoso Jared Phillips. Touring on the back of the new album Dancer Equired the kids bring the noise to Marie Antoinette for what should a sweaty, ear bashing but pop-tune filled night.
Here’s a brief and on my part very lazy way out of having to think, thanks Julien “Marie Anoinette”:
Their debut LP ‘Dig Yourself’ emerged in 2005 as the first release in years from the pioneering – and then hibernating – Siltbreeze imprint and was an instant classic, recalling multiple generations of that nebulous thing known as “lo-fi”, while still being packed with a sensibility undeniably TNV’s own. Since then, the band have achieved near mythic status in the US underground, first with 2007 follow-up ‘Present the Paisley Reich’ and then the triumphant ‘Rip It Off’ the year later. Their releases are glistening gems of pop records, roughened around the edges by the band’s trademark cranked production, punk/pop bouyancy and irresistible ear for sticky like glue melodies. Their new album ‘Born Again Revisited’ was released late 2009 on Matador Records.
Yes indeed, this could be the loudest gig you’ll hear so far this year so those people I usually look down upon for using earplugs at gigs will probably have the last laugh as I stumble through the crowd with bleeding ears cos Times New Viking are so frickin’ loud and awesome. Or something like that.
Here’s No Time, No Hope from Born Again Revisited.
