Girl band trios. Our favourite. Psychedelic surf trios are a new and welcome addition. If I’m not doing cartwheels across the office over the Vivian Girls then it’s the DumDum Girls and this week it’s San Francisco’s latest high quality musical export in the shape of Grass Widow.
With a name that calls to mind a pot smoking spider these ladies Hannah, Raven and Lillian do what other girl band trios of the moment are not doing, they’ve tuned out the fuzz and turned up the tunes, their debut album a delicious serving of psych-surf stylings with gorgeous vocal harmonies. It’s sunny upbeat stuff, just the thing for taking a ride on a golden autumn day like today, stopping at a lake and having a happy roll down a hill cos Grass Widow are coming to town.
Having only released two self titled 12″ E.Ps to date their debut LP Past Time has just appeared on Kill Rock Stars supported with a short tour of Britain, Amsterdam and here.
