A mouth-watering line-up this one. Berlin’s indie band of the minute Fenster will arrive fresh back from their support slot with Vivian Girls in Dresden and headline what will be a fine evening at the soon not to be a mystery for the blitzkids anymore, Ira’s Warehouse. Their debut album Bones will be available at the show, we suggest you pick it up and fall in love with it too.
The ladies from Royal Chord and Holly Mae & The Painted Room are sure to set the bar high tonight. Holly Mae’s recent album Turn Of Phrase can more than hold it’s own in comparison to any of your other folk-influenced favourites of the past few years, excellent stuff. Heart wrenching lyrics backed by beautiful passages of hushed, brushed drums, barely plucked banjos and mandolins, piano and trumpets all playing their part for the star of the record, Holly Mae’s voice, stunning stuff.
Royal Chord’s last offering The Good Fight was described by Melbourne’s Mess & Noise thus:
Puts royalchord in the same league as Au Revoir Simone, Bachelorette and a growing number of homespun, synth-reliant female acts that are aimed at the heart instead of the dance floor… If one can be bowled over by a whisper, this is the band to do it.
Compliments don’t come much better than that. Line-ups either for that matter. Tip Of The Day. See you there.
