Kurt Vile returns on another seemingly endless tour through Europe and stops by the Berghain Kantine for what will surely be a sell-out show.
After almost upstaging Akron/Family last May at the Festsaal with a support slot worthy of the adoring crowd which packed out the hall so early that evening, this time those devoted fans will get a whole show and possibly one of the latter part of summer’s best shows to boot. His backing band The Violators add more than just a whole load of long hair to Vile’s sound, although so much hair rockin around on stage does make for pleasing viewing; they’re a tight outfit, driving Vile’s powerful songwriting onwards and transform his recent album Smoke Ring For My Halo into a live monster; big, brash and loud is the order of the day without taking from the quality.
…and if they do that cover of Downtown Train again I’ll be even happier than first time round.
