Fenster’s debut album Bones breezed into our lives earlier this summer, inspiring in me yet another crazed-fan-style barrage of gig previews. I’m glad to report that these kids only go from strength to strength with each live performance, my favourite being their Wedding Party (preview here) gig a month ago at Ira’s Warehouse, a truly splendid evening of music all round.
Their excellently constructed songs are a real treat live; the change up of vocal duties between Jonathan and JJ, the two main protagonists in the band, keep the ears alert; the slow build up through sparing use of guitar, bass, drums and samples, backed up by the cleverness to cut it all loose and let it breathe coupled with their ear for a classic tune are where the band win you over.
This show is a warm-up for their 15 date tour which kicks off in the lovely Hasenschaukel in Hamburg on Sept. 17th and culminates on Oct. 12th with a homecoming show at the Knochenbox…before, of course, supporting Ganglians in Dresden a few days later…like I said, these kids are going for it, full steam ahead.

Searching for the mystical bones of Rasputin, deep in the bowels of Siberia, the paths of three solo journeymen miraculously came together. One dark night, with no wood to build a fire & encircled by starving wolves, the mighty Three, sharing no common language, staved off the bitter frost & fought back their impending doom by singing the magical songs of Lenny Kravitz until daybreak. It was this fateful night which inspired them to form a Lenny Kravitz acapella group & share His glory with the world. After countless years touring the world, including (funny country), the beautiful Three were called once again by the stars to embark on a new & bolder journey, Mincer Ray.
