Silver Apples, the legendary late 60s New York noiseters who built their own instruments and made music which was the polar opposite of everything hippy, flowery and what the 60s was supposed to sound like, come as a late addition to this already fantastic line-up at Marie-Antoinette. Simeon Coxe, one of the two original members brings his special machine, The Simeon, with it’s countless knobs and switches to entertain you.

Their two unique bleepy, droney, electronically hypnotic albums sound as original and fresh today as they must have sounded strange and otherworldly in 1967. A direct influence on many later sonic adventurers such as Suicide and Spacemen 3 (with whom Simeon has recorded with), their influence continues to this day and should be one of the highlights of the latter part of the concert going year. Welcome to The Oscillation Man.

The band is now touring as a solo act, SIMEON, aka “The Oscillation Man”, who sings and plays his famous hand-made instrument, ‘The Simeon”, made of “nine audio oscillators piled on top of each other and eighty-six manual controls to control lead, rhythm and bass pulses with hands, feet and elbows”…

Sightings can be a difficult listen at first. Avant-garde, noise rock never the easiest at the best of times these guys really push the envelope. Here’s one for you, not if you have a hangover though:

Sightings – ICH/IC

Dustin Wong has made his home at Thrill Jockey records and if anything can fill me with hope it’s seeing those two words associated with a band or solo artist. Dustin is yet another musician slowly revealing himself from their stable of impressive stable of acts. Say what you want to about Pitchfork, you can’t deny that the writing is sometimes nothing short of perfect; here’s a snippet of their opinion of Dustin Wong:

The songs become hypnotic melodies quickly. Pin-pricks congeal into chords, loops swing into low-end waves, and strums spawn glistening notes like a sparkler emitting embers.”

…and this is the man himslef, live and inspired:

Decimus, aka Pat Murano, member of New York’s No Neck Blues Band improvisational collective, opens up the night with his electronic musings.
