Sharon van Etten turned in a powerful performance at the Columbia Hall in support of The National this time last year and even though I’m not a huge fan of big shows, it was great to see her for the first time playing in front of over 2,000 people. A year later and Sharon’s latest record Tramp is garnering the type of reviews and creating the type of buzz which her second album, Epic, received and then some. So, at long last, we get what we’ve been waiting for since that night, a Sharon van Etten headline show, and at the lovely Grner Salon no less, another criminally underused venue as of late.
Adding Heather Woods Broderick, of the ridiculously talented Broderick family, to her band, word has it that their recent shows have been very impressive and a www.wfmu.org studio session broadcast on Feb. 11th on Shrunken Planet with Jeffrey Davison should give you a taster of what to expect. It’ll be available forever in the wonderful place that is the WFMU Archives.
Before I get into a long and possibly boring article about how much I love her music, well, I won’t, I’ll just tell you that there was only a handful of tickets left at time of writing, Feb. 8th, so it is going to sell out…and I’ll leave it at that.
Support on the night is from, dare I say it, our very own Aidan Baker(previously, previouslyer, previouslyerer).
Here’s a new one Give Out and below, Save Yourself, from Epic, both live:
