Cranky Booking presents the next in its recent series of shows with yet another showcase of Berlin based talent.
This time we have Skiing, fresh from their recent Marie-Antoinette debut as support to Gauntlet Hair and poised to take Berlin…as it were.
A Berlin-based three-piece band consisting of Everett Darling (vox, guitar, drums), Theo Rahkun (drums & guitar) and Joel Alas (guitar & vox). Lyrics discuss low-paid jobs, books and poetry, celestial bodies, family histories, political ideologies and weekend sports. Music style described as post-punk and/or garage pop.
…so the low-paid jobs part should ring true to about 98.4% of you reading this, the books and poetry to 32% of you because you have no time left to read and write cos you’re too busy working said low-paid job and the family history to 100% of you. As for weekend sports I think raising your arm to your face to deposit alcohol down your throat counts…doesn’t it? As you can imagine, this band speaks to your average Berliner in volumes. They started out as something very private and didn’t even want to be a band yet somehow they’ve been teased into existence. One to watch no doubt about that.
Here’s a fresh track from Skiing, fresh as in it was recorded about six days ago, it’s Haircut Pogo:
Opening up on the night and back due to popular demand are Delta Love, Berlin’s finest lo-fi garage duo…and probably it’s only one at that because there’s really no one like them. Their unique sound paved the way for Jimmy Trash’s headline performance last month at the self-same venue and we’re as delighted to invite these boys back as they are excited to play.
Joining the kids we have Ned Collette, Melbourne native, adopted Berliner, Collette brings his honeyed voice and his loop machine tonight to surely blow away those of you that somehow have never seen him play. He’s toured the globe with Joanna Newsom and Camera Obscura among others and released three studio albums and two EPs under his own name and with his excellent backing band Wirewalker. Not to be missed.
Here’s some stuff from all three acts:
