Sir Richard Bishop returns to Berlin for a solo show at NK tonight a year after he played here at Monarch as The Brothers Connected with his Sun City Girls brother, Alan, one of the most memorable shows I’ve seen in recent years in Berlin.
If that was anything to go by then tonight is sure to be a highly entertaining evening. Bishop’s guitar playing is something unique, at once familiar yet experimentation is never far from his fingers. His recordings have come almost as fast and regularly as those with Sun City Girls before they dissolved and when not touring with world renowned names such as Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Bill Callahan he somehow found time to record an album under the name Rangda with Ben “Six Organs Of Admittance” Chasny and Chris “I Play All Sorts Of Drums” Corsano, an excellent record called False Flag (2010). In a nutshell I could sit here all day telling you about how great he is but I think you know that already.
Even these videos can’t really do justice to the magic of a live show involving this man:
