Dirty Beaches does a great line in this type of photo, it’s like Chris Isaak meets a Wong Kar Wai film, you have to love it.
The Maze Festival continues at West Germany with this most talked about act stopping by on his European tour. A one man show, Alex Zhang Hungtai combines reverb and distortion soaked guitar, vocals and a very lo-fi drum machine sound all topped off with a generous helping of hair gel and hunkiness. Throughout his back catalogue there’s plenty of drone, post-punk and noise to occupy those of you so inclined but it’s those songs where he switches to classic 50s pop, like on True Blue below and Lord Knows Best from his 2011 Badlands record, that really catch your ear.
