Is Britpop on the way back? Does it deserve to after Oasis and over crimes committed in its name? Ignoring the politics and subtleties of questions like these, jangly indie pop is always a good party starter and the British have really been the only ones to consistently get it right. True that. It’s terminally cheerful, even when the lyrics really aren’t, and it’s just a good sound for a party.
Fair then that Berlin’s live music Christmas party of the year is heavy on everything we’ve mentioned so far (except Oasis, thanks) with an ace lineup of the best and cutest indie bands that Britain’s got on the hop right now.
Headlined by Sheffield act Standard Fare here for their Berlin debut, the night also carries the tremendously heavy talents of the Lovely Eggs, Wickes, MJ Hibbett & The Validators and Skint & Demoralised, Yorkshire kids who recorded their first album with the Dap Kings (Sharon Jones, Winehouse).
Stacks of DJs also: The Voluntary Butler Scheme (DJ-Set), Validators Tag Team, Stranded Affair, Demoralised Disco and The Oh! Pack. On top of that there’s going to be a Christmas Market, some kind of fairy-tale forest (must be a German thing, I have not the faintest idea what that might be all about, honestly) and even a robotic nativity scene. That’s there just in case you were worried that through all the fun you might forget there’s a good reason for the season: robots!
Just a good night out with stacks of fun and booze and surprises. And no fucking Oasis.
