Sandy Bird return after a long break away from the stage to headline at Lovelite tonight armed with new single Bambaloo and a new bass player, Marc.
For those of you out there who’ve ever seen this excellent band perform you’ll know it’s not something they do without giving it everything they’ve got so we know you forgive them for wowing us all at Lovelite last August then disappearing into the sunset without so much as a goodbye. Plus they had a busy year behind them so deserved a break.
This Berlin band remind me of a cross between Arcade Fire, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think and a touch of Broken Social Scene if I may be so bold as to drop so many great band names, it’s classic post-rock infused with an indie-rock sensitivity. After a couple of well-received EPs in 2008/09 the band have opened for bands such as Efterklang and played the Fusion Festival the last two years. They go into the studio to record their debut LP this summer and so we don’t have to wait until then they return tonight with a taster of things to come in the shape of new single Bambaloo. A tight, hypnotic number it is too, great stuff.
Sandy Bird also play support to Arbouretum on April 6th in the Diamond Lounge at White Trash.
